If you have earned income, consider a Roth IRA. I'd also look into some no load index funds and growth and income stock funds.

I'd also invest in some bank CDs and treasury bonds.

I think restaurants (and food businesses in general) are a good investment. I'd have to know more about your location and market to give better advice. But from personal experience, it seems like new restaurants pop up every week in the city I live in, and they are often crowded.

The best investment is to invest in FX Funds Group if you would like to make 2% - 15% per month.

search for FX Funds Group or myfxfunds in google search engine for more information.

Let's see, 50k. Suppose we divide that by five for a tad bit of diversification. Buying through Scottrade the commission would be $7 each, or $35 for the broker.

Great Northern Iron (GNI) closed at $78.80, so suppose we get roughly that price in the morning: 126 shares, plus commission, $9,935.80. GNI has about $4 per share in cash, about $7.38 per share in equity, and $13.55 in earnings per share -- and a dividend yield of around 9.2%.

Terra Nitrogen (TNH) closed at 126.83, so assuming approximate price tomorrow: 78 shares, plus commission, $9,899.74. TNH has about $8.28 in cash, 12.16 in equity, and 12.46 per share in earnings -- and a dividend yield of about 6.27%.

Northstar Realty Finance (NRF) closed at 3.26: 3,065 shares, plus commission, $9,998.90. NRF has 2.13 in cash (essentially 2/3 of the price of the stock is cash), 24.11 book value. and had earnings of 11.08 per share last year -- and a dividend yield of 12.62 from common sources.

EV Energy Partners (EVEP) closed at 19.01: 525 shares, plus commission, $9,987.25. EVEP has 3.20 in cash, 35.12 in equity, 10.93 in EPS -- 16.66% yield.

Thomson Reuters (TRIN) closed at 166.45: 60 shares, plus commission, $9,994.00. TRIN has 28.51 per share in cash, 158.14 per share in equity, and 10.92 EPS -- and a still respectable 4.34% yield (see what your bank would offer.

$49,815.69 leaves about $184.31 on account, until the dividends roll in. Not too shabby.
